Many people feel that Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player to ever put on a pair of sneakers. But there are indeed other players that can be in the argument for the greatest basketball player of all-time. Let’s take a look at some other names that can be mentioned alongside Michael Jordan.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is claimed by some to be the greatest basketball player of all time. Kareem holds the record for most points scored in an NBA career. He was so good in college that they outlawed dunking because of him. In the NBA he won six regular season MVP awards and also has six NBA championships. His famed sky hook was unstoppable and no other player since him has been able to use it nearly has effectively has he did.

Magic Johnson is another player some claim as being the greatest of all-time. he was a 6’9″ point guard that could actually play all five positions on the court. In his rookie season he played the center position in a NBA finals game and helped lead his team to the championship.

Is Michael Jordan the greatest of all-time? Well as you can see, it all depends on who you ask.

Dwight Howard is currently the best center in the NBA. He is a defensive force on the court and his known for his intimidating presence in the paint. But how good can he really become in the league? Let’s take a look at what he needs to work on to become one of the all-time greats.

What truly is holding Dwight Howard back from being named in the same breath as Shaq, Wilt, Kareem and Hakeem is his offensive game. He really doesn’t have one. Dwight has limited post moves around the basket and doesn’t have a great shooting touch. Dwight relies on overpowering his opponents to get his points. In order to become great he has to develop some signature post moves and work on his jump shot.

If Dwight Howard can extend his shooting range to 10-15 feet, he will be a virtually unstoppable force on the basketball court. Opposing teams will not be able to back off of him and he will be able to keep defenders honest. Hakeem had a virtually unstoppable fade away jump shot that made him an offensive force. In order for Dwight to take his game to the next level, he will need to develop something similar.

Everyone knows that NHL is a sport with plenty of hits, but until recently concussions was a subject that was not talked about. That was until superstar Sidney Crosby suffered one and people started looking at the problem a lot closer. Will concussions become a problem in the NHL? The answer to that question is definitely, unless the governing body steps in to do something about it. Players in the NHL hit each other hard and the protection that they have is just not enough anymore.

NHL players these days are faster stronger, and more powerful than ever before. Blows to the head are on the rise and that means the chances for concussions will be as well. The NHL must take a proactive stand if they do not want this to become a problem like it has in other sports. The NFL has found out what impact concussions can have down the road for a player after football. This is a road that the NHL does not want to go down that’s for sure. The only way to make sure it does not happen is take a tough stance on shots to the head, and do not let players play with concussion symptoms.

Do we really need the All-Star games anymore is a subject that is being talked about a lot among fans and even players these days. When the concept of the All-Star game was created it was to showcase players who were having good seasons. They all got a break from the daily grind of the season, and this was there reward. Now though it’s not that way anymore, as most do not even show up anymore to the game. It’s the sad state of sports these days, but the truth.

Fans have an input and vote players in, but in recent years because of injuries and various other reasons players have been pulling out of these games. It is a shame as the fans voted these players in because they wanted to see them play. The other main reasons fans and players alike talk about disbanding these games, is they have become boring and very predictable. They have certain rules set-up in these games which makes them nothing more than scrimmages. The fans deserve much better than this and unless things change they may stop going to these All-Star games. Most will tell you they really do not need this All-Star game anymore if none of the top stars are going to show up anyways.
